The next morning we took a 1 hour train to Edinburgh. It was amazing! We spent the day walking through Old Town....we started with a visit to the Edinburgh Castle which is over 3000 years old. We saw The Crown Jewels, the Prisons of War and all sorts of weaponry. So much history! Then we walked down the Royal Mile which is a really old road leading to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is the offical Scotland residence of The Queen. We did an audio tour of the place and were able to hear all about the history.
The next day we wanted to get out of the city a little so we took a 30 min train to North Berwick which is up on the water. We walked around the tiny town which was full of little boutiques and cafes. The coast was beautiful. We visited Tantallon Castle while we were there, which was probably one of the highlights of the trip. It is set atop cliffs on the Firth of Forth and has been damaged throughout the years from various attacks.
I'd love to go back to Scotland again while we are here and head up further North to the Highlands to see more castles and the countryside!
